Mount Clemens Ice Arena Learn to Skate Program

Welcome to the Mount Clemens Ice Arena Learn-to-Skate Program. From your tiniest Tot to your seasoned competitor, this is where it all begins. This professional program offers quality instruction on many comprehensive skill levels. This program is under the direction of Mindi Priskey, who is one of only 10 Master Rated Freestyle Coaches in the state of Michigan. Our professional instructors will conduct classes in a positive atmosphere, making learning to skate a fun experience for recreational, hockey and figure skaters of all ages!


Session 5 2024

5 Week program, meets 1 day per week. Classes offered Thursday 6-6:50pm or Saturday 10-10:50am.

Thursday classes: April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23

Saturday classes: April 27, May 11, 18, June 1, 8

  • Most classes are 25 minutes long with a 25 minute practice area and cost $60. Time listed on the name tag is the class time. Student's practice time is the other 25 minutes
  • Freestyle and Hockey class are 50 minutes and cost $75
  • Only accepting on-line registrations- no "walk in" or "day of" registrations allowed.

****If you are currently enrolled in Session 4, please wait to receive your test paper on week 7 to register for the correct class****

Attire: Single blade hockey or figure skates are required. All sizes of skates are available to rent for only $3. Helmets are required for all children 5 and under. We do not provide helmets, but feel free to use your child's bike helmet.

Clothing should be warm, but movable, such as snow pants, sweatshirts, snow jackets, etc. Most children will want to wear gloves. We recommend outdoor winter gloves over hockey gloves for young skaters. 

Private lessons: If you feel that your child needs extra attention or you are ready to start competitive figure skating, please contact Mindi Priskey for more information.

Ice Show: Our ice show this year will take place May 11 & 12, 2024. Tickets are $14 each and can be bought at the door.

Any approved late registrations will be subject to a $5.00 late fee.


Class Descriptions

For skaters who are new to our program, please start in Tots 1 or Beginners 1, depending on age. The first week of class, skaters will be evaluated and moved into the level that best suits their needs. Classes meet once per week  (pick your day):

Tots 1-3: $60   Offered Thursday or Saturday

Entry level classes specifically designed for children under the age of 5. The most elementary skating skills are combined with fun and games to capture and retain the children's attention and concentration.

Beginners 1-6: $60  Offered Thursday or Saturday

Designed for skaters age 5 & up and/or those who have passed Tot 3.

Freestyle: $75  Offered Thursday or Saturday

Freestyle is a 50 minute class designed to give a skater a strong foundation on which to build their figure skating skills. Each level includes skill of spinning, jumping and Moves in the Field.  

Hockey: $75    Offered Thursday or Saturday

Hockey is a 50 minutes long class designed to help introduce new players to the basic skating skills needed for hockey. Stick and helmet are required for this class. Focus will be on skills such as proper stance, crossovers, turning, and balance as well as some basic stick usage. Hockey class is a continual improvement class and can be taken throughout the entire season to strengthen the skills of any hockey player. There is no testing in this class. All classes will be taught by a Priskey Power Skating Professional.

Adult/Teen: $60  Offered Saturdays

Classes for ages 15 & up, designed to meet the needs and goals of the beginning adult skater.

Make-up Policy

At this time, we cannot accommodate make-up classes. We encourage all participants to take advantage of the Practice Ice area that is included in their registration for extra ice time.
